Our 2019 “The Stick" from our Candlestick Ridge Vineyard is simply a tour-de-force Howell Mountain red wine. It reminds me of why Howell Mountain is such a unique place to grow grapes. The wine is a giant in its scale without ever losing its Craig polish or precision. The 2019 vintage was close to perfection on Candlestick featuring a long, moderate growing season where the low-yield clusters progressed in ideal fashion. The explosive, black mountain fruit is coupled with an exuberant bouquet of exotic floral and mineral notes. This marks our first year in partnership with Pete Richmond and Silverado Farming Company for vineyard management, and the attention to detail has been well worth the additional expense. With the notable press exposure, this small lot wine is certain to go quickly. Do not miss this opportunity to acquire one of the very best reds to be produced in the Napa Valley. CANDLESTICK RIDGE ESTATE VINEYARD, HOWELL MOUNTAIN
Just down the road, Candlestick Ridge is the northernmost vineyard in the Howell Mountain AVA and is slightly warmer than the summit ridge where the Winery Estate vineyard lies. Candlestick is influenced by warm air from Pope Valley to the east and – at its slightly lower elevation – it is protected from the constant wind that hits the ridge line. The big subsurface boulders were removed during the replanting, leaving thin tufa soil on top of a rocky volcanic bedrock.
