We invite you to join Elton and a special guest on Friday, July 30, for the 2014 Cabernet Retrospective we've affectionately titled "Scratching the 7 Year Itch."

We'll explore the superb 2014 vintage from Napa Valley's top mountain AVAs, tasting and discussing the Cabernets from Spring Mountain, Mount Veeder, and Howell Mountain, with an opportunity to add an optional bottle of 2014 Diamond Mountain Cabernet into the equation. We are celebrating summer evenings with great wines ... because summer is fleeting, and we're finally out and about!

ABOUT THE WINES

2014 Spring Mountain District
Our first vintage from the premiere block of Joan Crowley’s beautiful vineyard at nearly 2000’ along the summit of Spring Mountain. This south facing parcel on pure volcanic ash gives the 2014 edition a depth and size not seen in previous releases.

2014 Mount Veeder
Our 21st of 22 vintages sourced from Robin Willams’ Pym Rae Vineyard now owned by the Tesseron family of Bordeaux and Cognac fame. Ours won’t set you back $450 a bottle, but received the same score as their debut with Pym Rae from The Wine Advocate. Dark and dense but finally opening to reveal a mountain violet perfume with mineral and a firm, round tannin structure.

2014 Howell Mountain Estate
Wound up yet starting to reveal its inner core of black and blue fruits coupled with the spice and minerality that are hallmarks of Howell Mountain. 2014 is a perfect vintage for Howell to shine. A towering wine with a finish that continues for an eternity. As is often the case, my personal wine of the vintage.

2014 Diamond Mountain District
You should choose to add this one to your lot. 2014 is showing Andrew Geoffrey vineyard at its greatest potential. Layers of cassis, iron, smoke and black fruits course through the nose and mouth of this glorious Cabernet, that is just hitting its stride.

Coravin
A high level wine preservation system that allows you to enjoy a glass of wine from a bottle without opening the bottle, which thereby extends the life of the bottle. Elton will be demonstrating the use of the device and best practice strategies for future use.
