3-Bottle Robert's Block Set in Custom Wood Box
Our most highly sought after Cabernet, at only 25 to 50 cases in production (and only in select vintages) is without doubt Robert’s Block. From the highest section of our vineyard on a shelf of solid volcanic rock the yields are minuscule and the farming cost is over the moon. It is a unique expression of Howell Mountain and a wonderful opportunity to enjoy something truly rare from the single barrel. Inside the lid is a striking, original print from Napa Valley artist Beverly Wilson, depicting our Howell Mountain vineyard at first light. The archival print is removable and frame-worthy, though it may be displayed within the lid.
WINERY ESTATE VINEYARD, HOWELL MOUNTAIN
The nine-acre Winery Estate Vineyard continues to demand constant attention – with huge variation in soils and microclimates. The yields are on average a meager 1.8 tons to the acre, but the fruit possesses a rare power and expression of site. Soils are especially shallow, even for Howell Mountain, and the vines must work through the rocky soils to seek moisture.
"Robert's Block" is sourced from the top section of our vineyard where the fruit is particularly sparse and intense, even by Howell Mountain standards. Though we farm our entire vineyard along the summit with as much care as any producer in the world, this block receives more attention than a two-year-old in a Waterford crystal shop.
The resulting wine, from the exceptional Napa Valley mountain 2012 vintage, is a deeply layered lake of dark, Howell Mountain fruit aged in a thin-staved Taransaud barrel. The wine is unfiltered and unfined, as with our other cabernets, and it is a breathtaking example of what can emerge from the volcanic soils on Howell Mountain.
