This 2024 Chenin Blanc, Howell Mountain Estate is unapologetically high in acid as the pH values and TA would indicate. It is the sole member of the Chenin Blanc-Howell Mountain AVA Club. Our Chenin snaps and strains against the leash yet yields a completely exotic, harmonious journey into the lovely orchard and citrus fruit sitting on the mid palate ensconced by all of that structure and rocky soil pedigree. Whole cluster pressing and fermentation in neutral French Oak allow the energy of this rare white wine to emanate from the glass without overt interference. This wine is terrific upon release, but we expect it to cellar well for at least a decade while gaining gravitas and complexity.

The nine-acre Winery Estate Vineyard continues to demand constant attention – with huge variation in soils and microclimates. The yields are on average a meager 1.8 tons to the acre, but the fruit possesses a rare power and expression of site. Soils are especially shallow, even for Howell Mountain, and the vines must work through the rocky soils to seek moisture.
