The 2019 Affinity is an estate grown, single vineyard selection from La Londe Vineyard in Coombsville’s Mt. George foothills just south of Stag’s Leap. Our primary mission at Robert Craig Winery is to produce wines that feature pure site expression, and the soul of Affinity has always come from La Londe Vineyard, where the vines struggle in stony soils to yield a tiny 3.5 tons per acre with tremendous focus and intensity. Affinity is not an “entry level” Cabernet selection from our winery. It receives the same care and attention in the winery and vineyard as our mountain grown selections, yet the farming cost is lower due to the accessible nature of the site.

"Our 2019 Affinity Cabernet Sauvignon comes on the heels of our previous 'best ever' vintage, 2018. I was sharing a glass of the 2018 Affinity recently with some industry friends at our home in late January after a load of great food and plenty of iconic import wines, including first growth Bordeaux. We needed that one more bottle, and I didn’t want to open another high dollar wine at that point. After a couple of minutes in an empty water pitcher, that 2018 Affinity was leaping from the glass. Big, dark, supple, and wound. It was everything I would come to expect from a great Coombsville red, like the Favia Cerro Sur (seriously great) from Andy Erickson and Annie Favia that I cracked at the end of January, except that 2018 Affinity isn’t $225 per bottle. Our visiting friends paused after the first taste and said, “What IS this?” Exactly the reaction I would expect. They couldn’t believe that they were having Affinity. I could barely believe it.

"The 2019 takes things a step further in a vintage that was lower yielding than in 2018. The wine is simply one of the best cabernets to be found in the Napa Valley at any price. Bring your brown bag out in six years and take everyone’s money at the blind tasting table. I am so excited for you to have this wine come to your homes and cellars. LA LONDE "AFFINITY" VINEYARD, NAPA VALLEY
Just south of Stag’s Leap, nestled in Coombsville’s Mt. George Foothills on the eastern side of the Napa Valley, our La Londe estate vineyard has produced exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon for our portfolio since Bob Craig purchased the property back in 1993. As a hillside, cane-pruned site that bears just 3.5 tons per acre, the 30-year-old vines allow a rare display of the volcanic, stony soils in the finished wines. Grapes are small, deeply black flavored, and undeniably racy with a big backbone of acidity.

The 2019 edition of Affinity is dark black with pure cassis and espresso bean coming through the wine, which remains supple despite the high tannin count. The additional Bordeaux varieties help the Cabernet to unlock and show itself fully. As always, our Affinity Cabernet represents one of the single best bargains for collectible, age worthy Napa Valley Cabernet.
