Backward and dense, but gorgeously pure blackberry and almost blood-like meaty notes combine with earth, spice and subtle oak to create a back-strapping, muscular, full-bodied, rich and concentrated wine with a good 20-25 years of upside. This was hard not to get blown away by, but patience is needed, and 4-5 years is suggested."

Our second vintage from Andrew Geoffrey’s extraordinary 13-acre Diamond Mountain vineyard, perched on a section of pure volcanic ash. At 1850' near the top of Diamond Mountain, the grapes achieve ripeness slowly and evenly which allows the massive tannins to become round and integrated in the finished wines. The yields are small, and there is very little vineyard there, so our production is tiny, less than 200 cases. The 2013 wine is powerful, deep, layered, dark and complex.

With just 13 acres planted on the 60-acre site, the Andrew Geoffrey Vineyard’s unique combination of soils (volcanic ash and loam) and varying exposures (Northeast, North and Northwest) required custom rootstock and clonal selection to optimize use of the land and micro-climates within the vineyard. Today, after budding over the Merlot clones in 2003 to additional Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot, the vineyard is comprised of seventy-eight percent (78%) Cabernet Sauvignon, clones 337 and 15, both on 110r rootstock, eighteen percent (18%) Cabernet Franc of a proprietary clone on 110r rootstock, and four percent (4%) Petit Verdot clone 2 on 110r rootstock.
