2012 SPRING MOUNTAIN CABERNET SAUVIGNON
Each vintage, the Spring Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon is a precious gem in our portfolio. A scant 520 cases were produced. Fruit for this gorgeous mountain Cabernet comes from Joan Crowley’s Spring Mountain Vineyard. This biodynamically-farmed jewel of a site rests on the summit ridge of Spring Mountain, just before the Sonoma County border. The site received nearly a third more annual rainfall than Howell Mountain.

After a challenging 2011, 2012 was spectacular on Spring Mountain. All the typical fruit character we see from this site – blueberry, blackberry, huckleberry and deep violet perfume – were amplified in this stand out vintage. In the glass, you’ll find a deeper, darker, richer embodiment of Spring Mountain, with a more opulent, rounder fruit and tannin profile.

CROWLEY VINEYARD, SPRING MOUNTAIN
The Crowley vineyard is a close fit for our mountain Cabernet portfolio from the highest elevations of Napa Valley. Overlooking St. Helena from its perch at 2,000 feet, this vineyard’s rocky volcanic soil, varied hillside exposures, and moderate climate produce densely concentrated winegrapes. The mountain is cooled by afternoon breezes from the nearby Pacific Ocean, creating moderate daytime temperatures and cooler nights that allow grapes to ripen slowly without pushing high alcohol and sugars.

7-YEAR TASTING NOTES
Joan Crowley’s dry-farmed, biodynamic vineyard near the summit of Spring Mountain has always had a knack for displaying the AVA character. Deep, dark fruit is combined with a forest floor and mountain violet perfume to provide an aromatic that is unique to this wine. Though still young, this wine has unlocked and is drinking wonderfully now.
