2012 DIAMOND MOUNTAIN CABERNET SAUVIGNON
The wine again sourced from Peter Thompson’s tremendous Andrew Geoffrey Vineyard is situated at over 2000’ on Diamond Mountain. The pure white volcanic soils produce wines of terrific intensity, structure and cellar- worthiness. In a fine vintage like 2012, the wine leaps from the glass. Very youthful with bright tannins and dark fruit, this wine is just beginning its journey.

"With just 13 acres planted on the 60-acre site, the Andrew Geoffrey Vineyard’s unique combination of soils (volcanic ash and loam) and varying exposures (Northeast, North and Northwest) required custom rootstock and clonal selection to optimize use of the land and micro-climates within the vineyard. Today, after budding over the Merlot clones in 2003 to additional Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot, the vineyard is comprised of seventy-eight percent (78%) Cabernet Sauvignon, clones 337 and 15, both on 110r rootstock, eighteen percent (18%) Cabernet Franc of a proprietary clone on 110r rootstock, and four percent (4%) Petit Verdot clone 2 on 110r rootstock.

" "The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Diamond Mountain comes from dusty, volcanic soils near the summit of this AVA, at 1,850 feet plus. Gorgeous blueberry and blackberry fruit emerge from this dense purple-colored wine. Floral notes are also present. This is clearly a mountain-styled Cabernet Sauvignon, but the tannins are civilized and sweet. This full-bodied, opulent beauty is loaded and can be drunk now, or cellared for 10-15 years."
